Good Eats in 2012 – Megumi Japanese Restaurant

In 2012, Poh and I went to several food places where we have not been to in the past. Most served good food. Some have nice ambiance. Here’s the first on the  list and hope you would enjoy the pictures as much as we did enjoy the food and the ambience! 🙂

Megumi Japanese Restaurant

77 Upper East Coast Road, Singapore 455218

Daily: 11:00 – 14:00 / 17:30 – 22:00

If you are an easterner, this is one authentic Japanese restaurant not to be missed. I can’t recall the reason we visited this place but I remembered vaguely googling for the location on Poh’s car and realising that it is a hugely popular restaurant that many had raved about.  I’m personally a lover of Japanese fare so after reading so much good about this place, Poh and I decided to drive there for dinner one day.

We reached around 5 pm and realised that we were too early. They opened only at 5:30 p.m. for dinner. Undeterred, we sat outside. At exactly 5:30 p.m., one of its staff came to the door, opened it and welcomed us. We were asked if we made a reservation, to which we had none, and was offered a seat outdoors as all the seats indoors were reserved. We remained seated where we have waited and browsed through the menus that were placed in front of us.

I ordered my all-time favourite tonkatsu ramen and since it was our first visit, we ordered much more sides to share.

My middle name!

My middle name yet again!

If you realised, there were much more crowd in this picture than the one above. When we were sitting down and deciding what to order, the crowd started streaming in. By the time the food was served, the restaurant was full and the carpark which only has a limited number of slots is also packed. Patrons who came after the restaurant was filled mostly waited outside the door. It was that popular and that made me all the more excited and anticipated the arrival of our orders even more.

My Cute Poh. I’ve no idea what he is looking at. :/

The food finally came. It didn’t take a long time though when one’s hungry, every minute is like a passing year. Ha!

Tonkatsu Ramen

Fried Unagi Tofu

Sashimi Platter

Pan Fried Foie Gras

Digging in! Just look at the huge slab of octopus tentacles! Yums!!!

Ending our meal with a dessert.

So if you are even in that area and would love satisfy your craving for Japanese food, head over to Megumi Japanese Restaurant and you will not be disappointed. 🙂
